A VPS was an obvious choice, and I found some good reviews for InMotion Hosting so decided to go with a ~$50/mo. package (256MB / 40GB HDD / 500GB xfer).
The good: The VPS had been provisioned quickly. Client provider had been quite responsive as well as helpful when I asked for as well as acquired root access, furthermore responsive after I is attempting to keep cPanel eliminated.
That the (really minor) bad: They first provisioned my account improperly (being a provided-hosting account) plus delivered me an email with the wrong IP/hostname. They did correct his or her mistake quickly lacking our intervention, then I got one second "enjoy" email with the correct info very soon afterwards. Regrettably that the 2nd email arrived simply later sufficient just that I'd already tried logging towards that the incorrect host quite a few instances.
